Each province in Thailand has a special operations 'SWAT' unit to deal with high risk situations. After a Provincial Police Officer passes Chaiya training, they have the option of joining one of these units. These units consist of a number of officers specifically trained for situations which are too risky for a normal officer to handle including kidnappings and the arrest of violent criminals. Unlike normal officers, officers in these units are trained in the use of heavy weapons which might be needed to carry out their duties. |
