The following photos of the Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force (RTAVF) in Vietnam are used with the permission of PARU Border Patrol Police Colonel Shanai Peamvong, a Thai National who fought alongside American forces during the Vietnam War. Shanai Peamvong was a member of the Royal Thai Police Aerial Reinforcement Unit before volunteering to go to Vietnam to fight from 1970 to 1971. The following AWARD is announced. SHANAI PEAMVONG ########## PVT RTAVF Awarded: Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device Date of action: 13 May 1970 Theater: Republic of Vietnam Authority: By direction of the President under the provisions of Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962 Reason: For heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force: Private Shanai distinguished himself by heroic action on 13 May 1970 while serving as Rifleman with A Company, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Brigade, Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force, Vietnam. On that date, while accompanying friendly forces in contact with the enemy, Private Shanai exposed himself to the intense enemy fire to provide vital support to the combat efforts of the friendly unit. With complete disregard for his own safety, he demonstrated sound judgement, aggressiveness, and initiative while significantly aiding his unit's performance and helped minimize friendly casualties. Private Shanai's heroic actions reglect great credit upon himself and the Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force, Vietnam. |
